古文書、古記録、民俗資料などの収集、研究。成果を『楽郷華観・桐生旧記物語』(初・後編)や『桐影楽事-桐生伝承史話』『桐里残照-桐生民俗史話』(前・後編)として私家版で出版している。
機織り唄、紋引き唄、子供唄、悪口唄、俚謡(りよう)、俗謡、雨乞い、東毛狂歌師列伝、年中行事、民間信仰、桐生新町資料、天王祭礼、根本山祭礼博徒物語、桐生風土記など、文書類の収集は「みんな足で稼いだもの」と、粟田さん。４年２月には６冊目の『桐蔭鳳声』がまとまった。

Research on a collection of old documents, records and folklore has resulted in a set
of privately published books - 'Gakugokakan - Kiryuu Old Recorded Stories' (first and
second editions), 'Toueigakuji - Kiryuu Oral Literature' and 'Tourizansyou - Kiryuu Folk
History' (first and second editions).
In the collection are folk songs, dirty songs, children's songs, and songs for weaving,
making family crests and praying for rain. There are also biographies of Tohmohkyoh music
teachers, descriptions of year-round events and folk superstitions, Mt. Nemoto festival
gamblers' tales, and information on Kiryuu's Shinmachi, Tenou festival and climate. About
the collection, Mr. Awata says, "It is the fruit of everyone's legwork". A sixth
book, 'Touinousei' was completed in February, 1992. |
