'Umeda Cards', a set of playing cards with words and pictures depicting the history and
legends of Umeda town published in 1987, was the work of four people - Tsushiko Kawashima
(words), Tkao Ryui (illustrations), Yoshio Shimizu (guide) and Yoshio Aoki (editorial
supervisor). Local information is available in addition to the cards.
"Umeda has so many historical places, stories, legends and stone objects, 44
cards just wasn't enough", they say.
For 25 years Mrs. Kawashima has been working as the secretariat of the Tomoshibi
'Tanka' Poem Association, formed by 20 local homemakers, and publishing the 'Tomoshibi'
('Light' or 'Lamplight') poetry magazine twice annually. |
