Mr. Matsui has collected about 100 radios used in daily life since 1920, from the large
box-style vacuum tube kind, to transistor and IC models. Early radios with separately sold
speakers - helmet, horn, etc. - are especially rare.
"Radio broadcasting only began 70 years ago, yet radios have changed so much with
the advancement of technology it makes the mind boggle", he says. Part of the
collection - 87 vintage radios - are on permanent display at Kyodo Shiryo Tenji Hall
(Honcho 5-chome), along with cameras, 'Kiryuu's Walking Exhibit', and other objects. |
