Reihogyokunen-jounin was the founder of the Jodo sect. In the religious debate between the
Jodo and Nichiren sects, called by Nobunaga Oda and held at Kousuazuchijougenin, it is
said the Jodo sect emerged the victor.
A written account of the dialogue, "Record of the Azuchi Religious Debate"
(densyajikuso), was handed down to the temple to become an important cultural asset of the
city. Temple events include 'Sutra copying and morning rice gruel ceremony' (April 4),
'Ten nights' (October 18), and 'Morning prayers' (the 10th of every month). |
