Umeda is a treasure trove of stone Buddhist artifacts.
"There are about 800 places with stone Buddhist images, like horse-headed
Kannons, ancestral gods, and Koushin towers", says Mr. Kawakami, head official of the
local Ume Long-life Group (chairman Katsuji Shima), which studies the area.
"Next we want to make a map of Umeda's stone Buddhas."
